“Visual Literacies and Critical Thinking Go Hand in Hand. One Develops the Other.”
We as future teachers need to use and embrace various visual means of literacy to allow our students the opportunity to interpret the images in their own way. This includes using SELFIES and EMOJIS and allowing students to communicate through visual means. It is also a way for teachers to incorporate multimodality into their lesson and it offers students the oppurtunity to explore their literacy skills in technology and visuals. As discussed in the video “Selfies,” the use of visuals allows students to express their originality and presepectives. By allowing this, teachers can have a better understanding about the students learning style and adapt lessons to meet their individual needs.

Multimodality and Visual Literacy has broadened my conception of literacy because is shows us there are so much more to literacy then just reading and writing and we need to teach this to our students. We as future educators need to take advantage of these types of literacy and create fun and interesting lessons to help our students broaden their literacy abilities!

On your blog, I noticed that you included a graph of visual literacy. I wanted to incorporate one into my blog; however, I was unable to tie it into the information I covered in my blog. So, I am very glad you were able to incorporate such a visual aide in your blog. This week, we learned about the importance of data sharing and different ways to share data (I was most interested in the graphs portion). I also think your cover photo for this page is a great photo explaining one aspect of visual literacy.
I also watched the video you posted. I think that although there was a great deal of writing in the video, visual literacy encompasses all that is visual. It includes the writing, the pictures, the movement, the set up and balance of images or text on the screen, and the use of details and pictures to represent words. I think that visual literacy is about all of the aspects of expression that are shown and absorbed using multiple means of representation.

I love your chart that you posted. As a visual learner myself the chart you posted helped me understand how visual literacy and critical thinking work together. If I was to read an article about how the two work together it would be hard for myself to understand. The chart catered to my needs because it allowed me to visually see how the two concepts work together. Even till this day chart and graphs make everything easy for me to create and understanding. The video you posted was interesting as well. I had to view it multiple times because honestly I don’t read that fast! But nevertheless I understood the purpose behind the video. Great post every image had purpose and the layout of the post was well put together.

I absolutely loved reading your blog, and especially loved the chart you posted. I completely agree that visual literacy and multimodality is a crucial piece to include in the classroom. Because I am a visual learner, this concept would have definitely benefited me in my earlier years of school. One point that resonated with me that you made, was when you said that as future educators, we need to make our lessons fun and interesting. If our lesson do not include visuals and multimodality, then our future students will not be engaged.
